A walk in the mountains will not solve the climate crisis or save the planet but is a collective action to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on environments and ecosystems. At the heart of the Agenda 2030 are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They highlight strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change i.e. green economy and sustainable tourism (SDG 8), reduce inequality within and among countries (SDG 10), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), the climate emergency (SDG 13) and protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems (SDG 15). “This “Climbing for Climate” 2020 initiative in Calci comes at a time when we face extreme heat, air pollution, and droughts – said Sant’Anna School professor Eloisa Cristiani, as the rector’s delegate for the network Rete delle Università per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile – We have to deal with the impacts of climate change through enhanced capacity building frameworks. Our universities alliance is taking action to encourage collective approaches to the threat of climate emergency.”
